What is a good size chicken coop for 5-8 chickens? 6' by 4'?

Assuming you are talking about standard birds (not bantams,) 6 chickens times 4 square feet per chicken equals 24 square feet, so 4' by 6' coop is good. Plus you need about 10 square feet of run per chicken, so that means you need 60 square feet fenced in for a run (say 6 feet by 10 feet.)

Build as large as you can! Eight birds may turn into ten or twelve?! Four to five sq. ft. per bird is generally good for the coop. Mary
