I have completed the main coop and the 6 week old chicks have been in it for a week now. I have a bottom acccess door with ramp for now, until I complete a larger run to attach to the side. Any suggestions on keeping my pine shavings from falling out the door when i have it open? I have a 1" border around it to help but I would like to have more than 1" of depth of shavings in the bottom of the coop.

If you are concerned about keeping in the shavings, take a 1X3 and stand it "up" and miter the ends at 45*. Cut it so that it is just slightly larger than your door in the floor. Use some TiteBond waterproof wood glue and staple or nail or screw from the bottom. It creates an almost perfect lip or walled edge to you door.

The picture below is NOT of the 1X3 but instead of a 1X2. This is the only pic I have on this computer. Sorry! But you get the idea. This is also a "Door In The Floor". n

Wish ya the best.
