Chicken covered in poop

My chicken has poop on the top of her head and some on her feathers,she's really dirty and I think a bit weary and scared.

Any idea why?

Was she kicked off the roost and slept under it perhaps?

If she is handleable can you clean her up with a wet rag?

Yep either she fell off the roost, or had a rough night in Tijuana. Either clean her with a damp cloth or if it's really bad give her a little bath.

My hen Lucy did that to my hen Henrietta when they were pullets. I washed Henrietta with just water and she still stunk and so I used some Trader Joe's all all natural (no bad for chicken chemicals) lavender soap and my my that worked wonders. She smelled like lavender, she ended up whiter than before, and she is still the whitest chicken I have. Lavender soap. It is the key.

One more thing, make sure it is all natural or it will irritate their skin. I always use all natural stuff so I can always use that for chickens (the soap is all I've used so far) without worrying. You can buy all natural soaps at a health food store.

Dawn dish soap is probably the best for washing chickens.

So it's just natural right? It seems odd that her head is covered and she's extremely dirty.Just the other day she was fine and clean.
I tried to hold her but she was so scared for some reason.

Well depends...you'd need to figure out how it happened to know if it normal or not.
