The critter is a weasel, the bait was the head of one of the roosters he had killed that morning. He didn't want to give it up and it cost him.

I hate Weasels!! Instead of trapping them I get my gun and wipe them all out. Stupid weasels.

It is sad but you need to protect your pets and livestock. I know first hand what they can and will do. My 3 roosters and several hens were killed by the little buggers. So a job well done.
