Chicken dance

I have a few that will run in front of me and "get down". I assure them that it's nothing personal, but they're just not my type. I am very flattered though, because I do have a rooster - but he's low man on the pecking order obviously.

OK!! OK!! I admit it - I have given one or two of them a rub down; does that make me a hen-o-file?

That's just your hen's way of asking for a back rub...

And to answer your question, FingerLakesChick, it doesn't make you a perv to give her one!

Hi there!

I'm new to the whole "chicken" thing. I just purchased 4 hens a few weeks ago. Two of them have just matured enough to start laying, the other two haven't quite started yet, but they are all around the same age. I have two Golden Comets (or Red Stars, or Red Sex Links.. whatever you'd like to call them) and two Buff Orpingtons. One of the buffs (we call her Scramble) and one of the Goldens (we call her Frizzle), have started laying. Scramble is the big boss and she does not exhibit this little "chicken dance" behavior, but Frizzle is lower on the totem pole and whenever I open one of the doors to the coop or the run, she comes right over to me, squats down, lifts her wings a bit, and stomps on the ground like she's dancing. I love it! It's hilarious! I give her a little petting and scratchin and then she wanders off and fluffs her feathers a bit. Judging by the rest of the replies, it looks like I'm a rooster?! Hahahaha!!!
