I went out to the chicken coop this afternoon and found one of my 11 hens dead in the middle of the coop. There was no signs of any pecking or other harming from the other chickens, but her bottom was bloody and open (The egg she laid that day was also bloody). She seemed completely healthy before. I watered them the previous morning and went out once again that afternoon to shut them in. I did not get to open the door this morning, but opened it as soon as I got home at 6:30. (This is when I found her dead.) Do you think it was dehydration, or something else?

Mabye prolapsed uteris she could have been pushing too hard and pushed her uteris out and bled to death thinking that because her and her egg were bloody. How old is she? Was she compleately healthy?

She seemed healthy and was laying on a regular basis. She is about 8 and a half mo old.

Still could be a prolapsed uterus did it look like the uterus was out? It can happen to any age hen no matter its health. The egg was bloody right. To find out the cause of death for sure though you would need to do an chicken otopsy
