Our chickens free range during the day, and a month ago, one of them went missing. We found no evidence of it being attacked (although I know there's not always evidence.) Yesterday my son noticed several chickens (not belonging to our flock) entering our yard and eating some cracked corn I put out for our girls. He brought up the question of whether our missing chicken might have followed the other flock back home and be living there now.

I don't know who these visiting chickens might belong to, so don't know who to ask if my chicken has joined their family, but thought I'd ask here what are the chances of a chicken going home with new friends, so to speak.

Thanks.

It could definitely happen, more than one person on BYC has had their chickens go over to the neighbors (or the neighbor chickens come to them). Missing free range chickens usually were somethings dinner, but if you have a visiting flock, some of your girls may decide to go back with them. What is the rooster situation? Do you have one, is there one with the visiting chickens?

We just lost our rooter previous to this. I accidentally ran over him with my car.

(On another note, our chickens were/are not afraid of vehicles at all. I never even saw him.) Very sad day in our family.
We haven't seen a rooster with the visiting flock, but hear one in the mornings. Just not sure where he lives.
