Found our 2 yr old Buff Orphington dead in the coup this morning. She looked healthly. Our 5 other girls and 1 rooster appear healthly as well. The day before she was sitting in the corner of the hen house which I thought was odd but she got up and walked on. I read about mites on this site. Should I treat the coup and chickens as if they have mites by spreading Sevin around and treating them with pour-on medications?

I don't see any mites just figuring I'd do this as a precaution. Is this okay?

You might want to worm them, especially if they've never been wormed before this. Chickens will lay around a lot when they are weak from worms. Go to your local farm store and buy some Safeguard goat drench and a little syringe (no needle). Fill the syringe with 1/2 cc for a full sized standard chicken and squirt it down their throat. Repeat in 10-14 days. Toss the eggs for 24 days from the date of the first dose. Don't feed them back to the chickens. If they are wormy, you'll see improvement practically the next day!
