well not sure this is the place to post this but here goes. We have 16 three month old chickens. They free range in the day and I put them in a larger brooder at night until my husband gets off his duff to get that coop built. Well they like to currently hang out on my back porch during the hot summer days here in AZ, and because the coyotes are fierce over here I don't mind for now until our property is fenced in.... well that is until now.

My 9 year old son left the back door open from the porch to our walk out basement when we left the house to run errands and 16 chickens took the liberty to make themselves at home in the AC house, my game room and bedroom and pooed all over the carpet. New carpet.

Now I let it dry and I am going to try to pick it up with a spoon (after I have my morning coffee) I also have a guy coming out to sanitize. Is there any tips or advice to getting chicken poo out of carpet?

I'm so sorry! I don't have an answer for you, being new to chickens myself. But I feel a little bit of your pain. My hubby and I got 15 chicks before the coop. They are in a brooder in my dining room and growing like nothing I've ever seen before. They are going on a month, I'm guessing, but I was wondering about your brooder. Can all 16 of them fit still. How big is it? Sorry, again, for the mess and for not having a solution.

Sounds like you have it pretty much covered. Pick up the big pieces, vacuum up the small stuff and dust, clean and sanitize the carpets. At least you are in a dry climate!!!
Good luck.

I've not had to deal with chicken poo in the carpet, but poo, pee & puke from kids & cats. We got a Bissell carpet cleaner...it works great! Not saying you need to get a Bissell I'm sure any brand would work, or you could rent a carpet cleaner.

The brooder is very big, enough for the chicks to sleep in at night, we built it and it sits outside, out of lumber and wire it has a door and bottom, it is like a big box with chicken wire. they went outside at 6 weeks, got too big for our garage.

I know nothing about this sanitation business, what should I ask him? he is a friend of mine who owns his own business dealt with other kinds of poo but not chicken.

i just scooped it with spoon, surprisingly easy to come up except the running dark poo, that is in there.

well I have an actual rug doctor, but i fear it is not enough to sanitize? i have a baby crawling around and I worry about salmonella. how do they sanitize?

LYSOL WIPES!!! Gets it right up and scrubbed out!
Or Natures Miracle from the pet store, but on the random occation one of the kids tracks in chicken poo on their shoe, I use lysol wipes, gets it right out!
I have also put natures miracle in our rug cleaner and it works very well!

Nature's Miracle works AWESOME at removing stains and getting dried on poo up, but just keep in mind that it is an enzymatic cleaner with no antibacterial properties. It will make the carpet pretty again but you will want to sanitize it thoroughly afterward.

(Nature's Miracle recommends, on the bottle, using it before using any other types of cleaners... it apparently works the best that way.)

Good luck!

perfect, next time I will have lysol wipes on hand! or natures miracle for the little accidents. the carpets came out great, was nervous about the chemicals but i think it was worth it, there were more than 50 poos on the floor he used a antimicrobal formulated for hospitals so I think that got the germs out, now i worry about the chemicals! ahhhhh
