i am framing up my coop as we speak (or as i type).....

what dimensions should i use for the "chicken door" and for the nest boxes ?

i plan on using a hinged door for the chickens to come and go.....

i will have 2-3 nest boxes, built onto the "outside" of the coop, so i can harvest eggs from outside the main coop, with a hinged roof....

    any thoughts ???

standard hens I would go with a 15 by 15 chicken door.

My nestboxes are the "store" bought kind and they measure 12 x 12 and my standard hens fit just fine, a little cozy but they seem to prefer it. I have two boxes at the same height and right next to the store bought ones that are about 16 16 and hen very rarely use them.

12"x12" is large enough for my heavy breeds so it should work for all chickens. They run through it with no trouble.

15x15 for the pop door. Don't forget to put it 9-ish inches above the floor level if you plan to do deep litter. Otherwise the litter will fall out the door everytime you open it....
