Chicken door height

Hi everyone. New mom here. Is 9” too low for an automatic chicken door? We will have full size layers when grown. They are 4 weeks now and still indoors.

Hello. Welcome to BYC! What breeds of chickens do you have? 9" is on the smaller side. I'd go with something around 12" high for standard-size chickens.

12" is better. Install it about 3-4" from the floor to prevent bedding from getting kicked out.

We've got silkies and even their door and nest boxes are 12" x 12". That's pretty much standard.

I’m not really sure. I got a batch of 10 mixed brown egg layers. I think they are Sapphire gems, cinnamon queens, black sex links and buff Orpington. That’s my guess based on no experience. I do think 9” will be too short. I think the automatic door I ordered is too short.
