Hello everyone, I’m very curious to learn about egg color genetics in chickens. So far I know that the blue egg gene (O) is dominant to the white egg gene (o).
Some of my questions are:
1. Do chickens carry 2 egg genes?
2. Is there a green egg gene?
3. Is there a brown egg gene?
4. If a green egg layer is the offspring of a chicken with the blue egg gene and one with the brown egg gene how is it that Isbars are pure and lay green eggs?

I am curious if there is a green eggs gene also
Yes so am I. From what I understand the brown coloring is applied to the blue shell sometime before being laid, but I thought that this could only be achieved by crossing a blue egg breed to a brown egg breed. I think that the offspring will get the blue egg gene (O) because it’s dominant to white (brown eggs are white eggs with brown coloring applied before being laid) and so the offspring of 2 siblings from the above cross would result in a daughter that laid blue eggs
@The Moonshiner can you offer some insight?

I've gone over the egg color genetic chart a few times and always thought there was something amiss when it comes to the green egg theory
I have orpington americana cross hens laying green eggs so I crossed them with a golden comet rooster(brown egg breed)
To see what I end up with
Do you have chicks from this cross now?
