To the OP... what have you come up with? Wondering if you had a chance to talk to your neighbor and if you did... what did they say...

Update I'm about a month into this. It's been way more fun that I expected. Let the momma out 1 week ago she had started being mean to a couple of the chicks! More than a few have little bald spots from her pulling feathers. It was time for her to go I couldn't watch her be mean any more, so she's gone. They (my chicks) sure didn't skip a beat, the first night she was gone I did have to show some little peeps the way to the mini coop we've built. But since then they all huddle up to the door around 7ish a little later if they think I'm gonna be handing out meal worm as late evening snacks! That's what's going on in the picture they're checking to see what I have in my hand ....

but I think all the stretched out necks are funny! I did run over to the nieghbor's and told them what I had done they didn't have a problem and said if I wanted to keep the chicks I could. So that's that. Before the momma left she laid me 2 more eggs so I guess the cat litter boxes in my mini coop are gonna work fine as nesting boxes when that time comes!

This was thier first night alone with out momma hen. They did fine, funny part is I slept with the window open. I have every night since I let her go just in case some thing comes lurking in the night. My gf has named more than a couple which will make getting rid of the roosters hard and will most likely mean making the run and coop larger as they grow:/. I guess I do spend a lot of time out there watching them play around...alright truth is I've been inside with them too! But if I don't have worms they're still pretty shy.

Several years ago there was this escape dog that would always come over to play with the kids.....

He had tags so we would call the owner whenever he showed up to let them know he's back to play with the kids....

they would usually come get him when play time was over....finally after several instances of the friendly visiting dog the owners gave up and said ...... If you would like to keep him you may, obviously he likes it better at your house than ours, so we accepted and adopted another mouth to feed. LOL

Kids were happy - Dog was happy ... Win - win
