chicken eye has yellow on it

You should also put apple cider vinegar (ACV) in his water to help break up the congestion. About 1 tablespoon for a gallon of water. It's best to get the acv with the mother in it from the health food store, it is more effective than the regular clear stuff from the grocery. I have a roo with a chronic congestion problem and the acv helps a lot.

Also, how is his eye doing?

Just be careful when you are going between the chickens, feed/water/clean the healthy ones first and then the sick one, then wash thoroughly before going back to the healthy ones.

Resp problems can be a real pain in birds as their lungs have such a different set up to mammals.

Don't put him with the other chickens till you are absolutely sure he is sorted. If you can get some antibiotics I would definitely put him on a course.

you might want to try some Sulmet. You can get it at most feed supply stores. It is a drinking water solution....Antibacterial.
A few of my hens were sneezing, and had goopy eyes. I seperated them and went to my local feed store. This is what they recommended for my girls. It worked..they are happy and laying fine.
Good luck! Hope you ALL feel better.

I have a chick that had gotten a piece of pine shaving in it's eye. by the time I noticed it was pretty bad. I washed it's eye out and as I was doing that I attempted to get some of the pus out and found out it was more like a plug than runny puss stuck in there. I got the plug out and it's eye is still swollen but not as much but it is still watering. I first thought the plug was it's eyeball but the eye is still in the socket. I've been washing it's eye out with warm water then I use an eye dropper to drop a couple of drops of warm salt water. I've done this for other animals and they all have shown improvement but this little chick hasn't improved but it hasn't gotten worse. I have it in a brooder by itself with no pine shavings. Just paper towel so nothing else gets in it's eye.

It is eating medicated feed so I don't want to give it any antibiotics. I was thinking of an antibiotic I can put in it's eye instead. Any ideas? below is a pic of it's eye before I worked on it and a pic of the plug I got out. I lowered the bottom of it's eye lid and the thing almost popped out. I just very carefully worked it out. It seemed to be very painful but it had to be done. I was so afraid I was taking out it's eyeball but thank goodness it wasn't.

The tab is to show the size of the "plug" I got out. I don't know if it's eye is just irritated from this thing being on it or if it is still infected. It's eye gets glued shut and every time I work on it, it swells up again. This baby is just 2 weeks old. It's gotten used to getting wrapped in a wash cloth while I work on it's eye. Then it gets re wrapped in another dry wash cloth and i set it on my chest under my robe and it sleeps there for as long as I'll let it. It does not have any respiratory issues, no drainage from anywhere but this eye. It is eating and drinking. If antibiotics in the water is a must all I have to feed it other than the medicated chick feed is layer mash. DH is going to check where he works if they carry antibiotic for the eyes tomorrow. He works at the C0-Op, it comes in real handy. The chick is a partridge frizzled silkie not a sizzle.
