Chicken Eye Poked Out

We had a hen recently lose an eye. In addition to the above suggestions, we found it helpful to feed her separately for about a week until she healed a bit and got more confident navigating with one eye. We didn't separate her completely, just plucked her out of the coop twice a day for special feeding. I cracked an egg into dry feed for her. It's been a few months since her accident and she manages just fine now!

I’m so sorry this happened! I had a rooster who had his 3rd eyelid (I think that’s what it’s called) pecked really badly by one of the other hens and it got infected. I tried the at home and otc remedies but it was only getting worse. Eventually I had to take him to the vet and got this liquid antibiotic/anti-inflammatory/pain medicine along with antibiotic drops. I forget the name of that oral medicine, but it worked amazingly. Unfortunately the 3rd eyelid ended up falling off, but that stuff cleared up the infection so fast and he ended up living a normal life (I know not quite the same as your situation). You can do the online vet thing if you don’t have a vet that will work on chickens near you, just for the prescription. Good luck!
