I was just concerned since the other 7 silkies I hatched aren’t doing it! He seems like a super healthy happy chick though. I’ll try not to worry! Thank you again

Hi, I have a young Sussex cockerel who does the same thing. He came from a breeder so I don’t know if he always has... he is otherwise an energetic little fellow. I would love to know if you found out anything. Attached are sleeping photos where you can see just below the eye his cheeks puff out markedly then suck in with each breath..... thank you for any insights anyone has. I also have a Sussex and is 1 1/2 months old and she does the same exact thing

Wondering since this thread was started a while back, some of the original posters might be able to give us an update?
I have 2 blue laced red Wyandottes that are doing the same thing.

I know this is a very old thread but I wanted to add since this is the only related thread I've ever found. My 6 year old OEGB hen has been doing this for the past 4 years that I can remember. I've taken her to the vet and even a bird specialist to no remedy. She seems to have it worst when it's warm and most especially when sleeping. The nasal cavity in front of her eyes and her throat right below her beak flare as if she's struggling to breath through her nose. She seems reluctant to breath through her mouth but when I listen she may only have a slight snore. her airway doesn't sound blocked and at worst she may blow a few bubbles from the corners of her eyes. sometimes I notice she prefers to stand when she sleeps but still tucks her head in her wing 95% of the time. This sort of problem reminds me of a deviated septum in people.

it's probably some sort of skull deformity caused by birth defect or if it starts later in life, by sinus cavity injury.
