chicken fat

I go with the "eat it yourself" crowd. There used to be a department store restaurant in Nashville TN that was famous for its pie crust made with rendered chicken fat. They made an apple pie with it that was worth driving a hundred miles for. I tend to render the chicken fat and use it in cooking. I feed the chickens the crusty pieces of skin left after the rendering.

I never feed raw poultry to my poultry.

If you're not going to use it yourself what I do is mix it up with some oatmeal and water and nuke it in the microwave until it's done. Enough water to let the oats cook, but not so much that it's sloppy.

and the winner was... raw. And they loved it.
As far as eating things raw, we need to conciser humans eat shellfish raw and to understand the dangers of that, you need to take a class in parasitology. Ultimately it was easier and by not cooking it down, I saved a few calories by not loosing it in drippings. Next time I will cut it up smaller than I did this time, however.
thanks,
scott
