Chicken Feeders for Crumble food.

I would love to hear from anyone as to suggestions for feeders for crumble food for chickens. We had a great feeder but the crumble would not fall down and would get stuck at the top. Then my husband built a feeder for the chickens and now all the food falls down it and the birds make a mess spreading the food everywhere in the coop. I have to continually pick up food and put it back in the feeder but hope to find one that works with crumble yet doesn't all come out at once. Any suggestions?

hello and welcome to backyard chickens! could you post a picture? we used to have a homemade chicken feeder that worked pretty well i don't have any picturesthough it looked a bit like this

I just use a normal bowl screwed to a wall high enough the birds have to stretch their necks to reach the feed. Because the feeds just in reach they can't scratch it out. And if they stand in it (seldom happens) the walls of the bowl are high enough the feed can't go anywhere. One of these days I'll remember to take a pic. But it really is that simple.

We use 3 inch pvc pipes mounted vertically with an elbow at the bottom that we turn up slightly to hold the food. I think they are the best design for our coop, food stays dry and each pipe holds about 12-13 lb food - so I can go a week or sometimes longer before needing to add food. 5 gallon no waste feeder. You can use a lot of different containers but the same elbows. I fastened my elbows with small L brackets. Some people use silicone, I felt better with the brackets as they will never break loose, like silicone might.

If you haven't made a horizontal nipple waterer, you might want to look into that also.

X2, love our no waste feeder.... we opted for a large tote as it allowed for more feeding ports
