Chicken feeding basics-New to chickens!

We are getting chickens this coming spring and we are trying to figure out what and how much they eat? How often do you feed them? Ours will only be free ranging a few hours a day but it isnt a huge peice of land, either. What food do you buy and where do you usually get it from? How do you know they have eaten enough?

We decided the first time we will just get chickens. Since we don't really know what we are doing yet lol.

I learned an awful lot from reading the posts on this site. Welcome! Talk to your local feed store. They will also advise you. I put out a bowl of chicken scratch and pellets in the morning and they just help themselves all day. They get fruits and vegetables that we are eating, and free range for most of the day.
