Chicken fix

I am a big believer in having a well-constructed coop. I have killed many snakes around my house, mostly venomous ones. The snake in the photo is non-venomous. The secret is to be sure there is no opening large enough for a snake. Hardware cloth has 1/2" openings and I've never had a snake inside, although I have seen one trying to get in after my baby chicks. Another thing that works very well is the black bird netting for trapping snakes. I have had this happen more than once. I just had some of the netting laying on the ground near the coop and snakes tried to go through it and got caught.

Is Mr. Wickham by any chance named after the person in Pride and Prejudice? :)

Absolutely!! He has turned out to be my gentlest rooster, though, and I have considered renaming him Mr. Darcy.

See if you recognize any of my other hen/rooster names from books and film.

Fiona
Lucy and Ethel
Fisher and Henry Crabbe
Rachel Lynde, Marilla and Anne With An E

I have a black Australorp/Ameracauna hen which I am having trouble naming.

My rooster is named Mr. Darcy!!! He is a buff orp.

Fiona - Shrek
Lucy and Ethel - I love lucy
Fisher and Henry Crabbe - Not sure
Rachel Lynde, Marilla, and Anne with and E - Anne of green gables!

Here are my names from movies - (they may be spelled differently)
Merri and Pippyn
Lizzy and Jane
Attila the Hen

Love those names. Actually, I shouldn't have listed Fiona as a movie name because it wasn't from Shrek, but it just a name I like.

Fisher and Henry Crabbe are characters in a show called Pie in the Sky from the UK. It's about a detective/chef who wants to retire and just run his restaurant. He has a chicken coop in the back yard of the restaurant and is often talking to them. Great show.

Thank you for the tip. I'll try and construct something before it gets warm

Here is a picture of my hen (LaFawnduh) also from a movie.

We got a little bit of snow here in Texas so I had to take her picture in it. Isn't she cute? I just love her to pieces.
