A couple of weeks ago one of my chickens got a cut on one of her toes. It seemed to have healed, but just today I noticed that the toe was looking blue. What do I do? Is this a serious problem?
It got below zero just a little enough to freeze a thin layer of ice on the duck pond.It looks like she may have had her toe stepped on or stuck and injured. It looks bruised which can also look green. It hasn’t been below freezing where you live, has it?
It is the same toe. I am not sure if it is swollen, but the yellow part of that discolored toe appears to beHopefully, it is not becoming nectrotic. Is this the same toe that was cut? Does it appear swollen as @Barredbuzzard34 asekd, or is it the picture?
Ok, I've set up a heat lamp in the coop for the birds. Hopefully tomorrow it'll be noticeably betterWell, hopefully that one toe didn’t get some frostbite. If a toe gets wet and it is that cold, there can be a risk of toes or feet getting frostbite. If it is, it doesn’t look severe, but just keep an eye on it. This picture below from BYC shows some purple areas of frostbite.
