The only chicken stuff that i really wanted, no one ever bought it for me.

I wanted tin signs to hang on my chicken house. Guess what? I had to buy them myself.

I've read one page so far. Years ago (before chickens), my m-i-l bought me tons of cat/kitten themes items. Yes, I liked cats and kittens, but had no interest in setting them as the decor theme for my house. It was annoying indeed, and I never could think of a polite way to tell her that what she intended to cause me pleasure was instead rather annoying. So I buttoned my lip and said nothing.

Maybe you can go shopping with your mom and as you browse through stores show lots of interest in other items, but when she points out chicken stuff shrug your shoulders and say something like "neeah--I already have enough, and I really prefer the live ones" or "ummm, not quite my style."

I thought about that but I'm sure that would not work.

Before the chicken stuff began it was Budwieser stuff since Bud was the label of beer that I drank. I have not lived with my mother for more than 20 years but she still wants to decorate my home even though I am married with children. Before Christmas she was at my house and started asking where Christmas decorations were at that she had given us years earlier. She was upset that they were not out. I know it will be the same with the new pictures. There are some items that I put out when I know someone in particular is coming over to the house. So that they think I am displaying their gift.

Hmmm, sounds like time for a Big Announcement to the family that y'all are redecorating, and until further notice to PLEASE not give anything "for the house." Then room by room go through the house and clear out the stuff that you do not care for, replacing it with what y'all DO like. If asked, it is a long-term project to get everything "just so." Maybe concentrate all the chicken-themed items into the guest room that mom occupies when she visits?

Make sure to have an alarm clock that crows in there, too.

I would just casually bring it up with a couple of them, as if you AREN'T referring to them... wait for the topic of the chickens to come up, mention that you need some new supplies, etc., and then say "Man, when Christmas (sub whatever occasion suits you) comes, I sure hope I get gift cards to the feed store.... now THAT would be awesome!" and then laugh it off as if you weren't hinting and drop it. Maybe that will give them a lightbulb moment. Don't even mention the goofy chicken gifts, just mention your need for supplies. Chances are, they will get the hint. Just a thought. I'd like to do the same thing actually. I don't get much chicken stuff as gifts, but I sure do get a lot of other knick-knacky stuff that I don't want, and I'd MUCH rather have a gift card to the feed store!!!

Mom came out to the house last night and first thing she asked about was the rooster pictures that she just gave me. I just told her that I had not had a chance to hang them yet. I don't think I will have a chance for quite some time.

It is so bad that I have my rooster coffee mugs sitting on my rooster cutting board and in the dinning room I have a ceramic rooster sitting on a decorative rooster plate.

Oooh, oooh! Perfect to use for singleton chicklets! Or just two little hatchlings! Cut it into sections, use a section any time you have one or two chicks hatch (assuming you incubate, rather than use broodies) for something comforting they can snuggle into!

Now, I do have chicken things, but they're all things I've bought myself EXCEPT for the hen planter to hold the small potted plants in my cubicle. My land-lady learned I surf the GoodWill store for things, and I'd shown her a few, and she went there herself. Found herself a bunch of useful stuff AND this chicken planter. Which I love.

I have started collecting hens-on-nest dishes, and have a whole curio cabinet of 'em.

Wish somebody would GIVE me more chicken things. Although I do prefer hen things, to rooster things. Here are some of the oddities I have in my cubicle at work:

Like these chicks, here:

Or these silly little "hatchlings" in the back row:

Or this little Playskool coop and granny lady who looks remarkably like me:

Oh, wait! Somebody HAS given me a chicken thing! This little plucked fella, as a reminder from a co-worker that I should be EATING my chickens:
