Sounds like a Hallmark Card to me. You should create that and get a patent and put it in all the stores. I would buy a bunch and mail them out to all of my family and friends.

LOVE IT!

When I got chickens the first thing I said to EVERYONE is... DO NOT BUY ME CHICKEN STUFF!!!! I DO NOT LIKE IT, AND I WILL NOT PUT IT IN MY HOUSE!!!!!

...and I still don't! Its so old country to me, its not my style. I like old world european style, italian finishes, stone, pewter, columns, antiqued trim work... ect. I like plants, modern glass & worn wood in dark finishes. AND NO CHICKENS!

In the garden though... different story!

..but yeah, I still get chicken stuff from people. Its been craigslisted, or returned. Sorry, they belong as lawn ornaments.

got chickens in 2010 - got 3 "decorative plates" depicting roosters (I don't have any roosters) from my MIL for Christmas - I also have minimal wall space (lots of windows). What to do with them?

don't want to hurt MIL's feelings. I really don't like knick knacks (dust collectors)...

I don't like the dust collectors either. This last christmas, probably 97% of my presents were chicken related like I don't like other things. I got lots of framed prints of chickens and roosters and the biggest fail present was a plush rooster thing that had wire legs so I couldn't put it in my bed, it was bright pink with flowers embroidered on it so i didn't like it anyway, and it was so big I couldn't put it in my room! I don't think my mom knows I like other things!

She also got me a little glass chicken family. That is sitting on my book shelf collecting dust.

This thread made me laugh! I think I am one of the guilty ones that buys chicken gifts! My mom loves her chickens (especially her rooster), so my sisters and I tend to buy her chicken things for mother's day. We do restrain ourselves at Christmas and birthday time (usually). I should know better, since people do that to me with hummingbirds ever since I got a hummingbird tattooed on my ankle...must mean that's all I ever want for gifts!

Just wait, your time is coming. If I was not worried about hurting my mothers feelings then I would send you this horrible rooster picture that I just got!

Hahahaha! This is sooo funny! One of my biggest fears used to be that everyone was going to send me a bunch of lame chiccken themed stuff. So far...so good. Only got a few things, and I've liked the things I've gotten- a nice coffee mug w/rooster, a disposable table cloth w/chickens, eggs, feathers on it (5 kids= lots of disposable tablecloths during project hour everyday), and only 1 ceramic chicken (which is hollow, so I store the kids crayons, colored pencils, scissors in it). The other few chicken things I have I bought myself.

I dont want tons of chicken themed stuff, but a few well placed, NICE, things, fit perfectly in my home. Other stuff DOES get sent to hang around outside- either the around the coop, or the hay barn, or outside an entryway door.

Personally, I LOVE to shop the Goodwill for chicken stuff- sometimes I find something really cute or cool. But since I also have other animals, I dont always get stuck with getting chicken themed stuff.

On a positive note though, its kinda nice that we have a hobby that lets people who want to get us something, but dont really know us that well, to get us something they think we may like. We may not be into it (the gift its'self), or even like it, but, like they say- its the thought that counts.

Oh and I SOOOO agree with the previous poster who said 'gift card to the feed store'. THAT is the perfect gift! I ask for them when someone asks me what I want or need for holidays/birthdays, and I give them to those I know could use them.
