(Chicken got a cold?) Added Info.(MS/MG,ILT,CRD,NPIP)

I'm glad Spook did more research. I thought you knew the Hatcherys were'nt clean. I asked about the Turkey Poults too and they aren't tested. There are a few places in this county that you can get Clean birds from, UCON has clean birds, and Clemson University also has clean birds, those are 2 that I know of, and I know there are a few more, they don't have alot of breeds, Clemson even has Guineas that are clean, which is where I plan to get mine from.

It's awful too, because with it being in so many flocks, its an easy target, by that I mean as a disease to not be allowed in Poultry, look how many birds would be eliminated. I won't be calling anyone, and I have Clean birds, I think its more important to educate about how to stop the cycle. I'll stick to my Mycoplasma Control Program and the way I manage my birds, even if it is off label use for Poultry here.

It can be cleaned from the Environment, you have to actually spray the ground too and soak it good, you use bleach, 10 to 15 percent mixed with water in a Garden Sprayer, that's the cheapest way, Tek-Trol will also kill it. Oxine does not kill it, just so you know.

It is real important to eliminate Mites they spread it, and eliminate the Straw, its hollower and makes a great place for Mites to harbor, use Hay and wood chips.

I emailed Ideal Poultry. It sounds like they are tested for Ms and Mg.

I called to clarify, they said that they are monitored and they vaccinate for Mg and Ms. They said that they can not guarantee that your birds will be clean.

Where is Ideal Poultry located? I thought it was in Texas. I don't think Texas allows some Innaculations if any, anyone know for sure? When you innaculate you are giving the birds a low dose or strain, if tested they will test positivie. I probably could look up the information but just wonder if anyone else knows for sure.

Thank you so much for the invaluable information.

And my DH thought I was nuts when I told him I am buying a new pair of shoes, jeans and T-Shirts for my trip to Speckledhen's when i pick up my babies. My intent is to wash them on the return home and leave them packed so when I come to visit Suede

they are ready to go and I am bringing absolutely nothing that could possibly be in my soil etc etc to her place.

Bio-Security must be practiced to the best of our ability.

In my opinion and experience most hatcheries are MG clean. The trouble is they cannot certify this like they can with NPIP, nor does NPIP require MG and MS free flocks.

They biggest risk for MG is buying live, not day old or eggs, from MG infected flocks. I know many will disagree with me on this.

I thought that the Mg was transferred through the egg. That would mean if a hatchery or breeder was positive all the chicks and eggs would be infected also right?

Reports vary BUT from most of my studies I have found that while MG and MS can pass through the egg they only have about a 10% chance of doing so and the adult bird must be shedding the virus at the time it layed the egg. So while it's possible it's also improbable. Again, much of the available info on MS an MG seems to vary.

Thanks! I agree the information seems to vary a lot. It makes it hard to know what to do.
