chicken got a snake

A.T. Hagan :

If chickens came twenty feet tall they'd eat YOU.

Mine caught and ate a ten inch snake a couple of weeks ago.

I think my red sex link tried to eat me the other day. I was sitting on a log in their yard looking at my roo's foot and all a sudden I was being ambushed from behind! then my brahma joined in! My back was covered in scratches. Now I never turn my back for fear of being eaten alive while my DH is in the livingroom watching TV!!!

I think I gagged a little when you made the string cheese reference!

Last weekend one of my EEs ate the biggest night crawler I've ever seen in two gulps. I couldn't even look at her after.

I try to think of it as free pest control and free food. Anything to keep the feed bill down!

A pair of roosters looking for a stew pot!!! One of my roosters committed suicide, flogged me 4 times in a row. He died shortly after the fourth time.

A couple weeks ago I caught a little ringneck snack for my kids to play with. Well, the youngest child was in fact in the back yard playing with the snake, when one of the pullets ran up to him and snatched the snake right out of his hand! As soon as the others saw her run off with something dangling from her beak, the chase was on. I didn't witness it but certainly heard the tale told several times, lol.

I have made a mental note to never, ever fall down while putting out the morning feed

I really think they were trying to get up on my shoulder or my head since I was so low to the ground. Sure felt like they were trying to eat me though!! and that is the story I am sticking with

A chicken's eating rules:

1. Does it fit down your gullet?
If yes, eat it. If no, go to question 2.

2. Can you break it into pieces that will fit down your gullet?
If yes, break it up and eat it. If no, wait for it to decompose (or your servants to rake out the coop).

3. Does it try to get away when you peck at it?
If yes, go to question 1. If no, go to question 4.

4. There is no question 4.

5. Does another chicken have it in its mouth?
If yes, OMG YOU MUST GET IT NOW. Forget everything else.

6. Do other chickens see it hanging from your mouth?
If yes, run like hell. The others already are on their way.

7. Is it something your servants are growing in a garden?
If yes, eat it and everything else in the garden. Leave nothing standing.

8. Is your servant laying passed out on the ground?
If yes, wait a few minutes (because someone has to refill the feeders). If they don't get up, then go to question 2.

THAT was hilarious, and sooooo true.

I remember one day I saw my barred rock running around with all the chickens chasing her. she had something in her mouth but I couldn't tell what it was. When I finally caught her, she had a baby rat, and had swallowed it's tail, but couldn't swallow the rat, and wasn't willing to part with her "prize". I removed it for her.
