Ok, I got a dilemma .... The two feed stores here, sell Pigeon Grit but no longer selling Chicken Grit. I could probably order from Amazon but hate to put it on my Mail Carrier. I do keep my girls (4) confined for their safety, feed them Flock Raiser fermented ... I would like to give them some treats (scratch or dry feed) down the road. They'll be 12wks old next week so been getting Chick Grit which the feed stores & Walmart carries but no Chicken Grit ... Would Pigeon Grit be ok or just keep them on Chick Grit?

you could put dirt with small pebbles in with them, without buying grit at all, if it's available on your property, not familiar with your terrain sorry, and have never heard of pigeon grit at all but should be similar, just not sure smaller or bigger.

Not sure how large pigeon grit is compared to chicken grit... logically it's smaller since they're smaller birds, so while it may work, it may not be optimal. I try to provide a wide range of grit sizes so my birds can pick out what they need.

A small bag of grit shouldn't be too hard on your mail carrier, and it'll last a very long time, so if you do need to order, don't let that hold you back.

:hugs Thank you all for your replies .... There is a difference between Pigeon & Chicken. Chicken Grit is "insoluble crush granite", no other adds while Pigeon Grit got a bunch of stuff which I'm not sure is "ok" to add to their diet ... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07PRJRP3X/?tag=backy-20

Sounds 'harmless' I know the granules are smaller than CG, one feed store showed me a bag that they had open, selling smaller amounts as needed. I'd go with the Pigeon IF I knew it would be ok, 50# bag the same price as a 25# bag of Chicken on Amazon.

Pigeon grit will not harm your chickens. Since it is considerably finer than chicken grit, I don't know how effectively it will aid in the digestive process. I would guess it is better than nothing.

Well after looking at the label I sure wouldn't use the pigeon grit as 19-22% calcium is WAY above what a chicken would use. Layer feed is only about 3-4% calcium. Granted they're not going to eat a lot of grit at one sitting, but it's still concerning to me.

from sounds of the others replies that knows what it is, I'd either get on like Amazon or keep em on the chick grit, they will just go through more of it
