Chicken has a Sty?

You can get someone to hold her wrapped in a towel, disinfect the area, and probe it with a sterilized needle to see if there is a feather underneath it. Feather cysts are common in chickens.

What should I use to disinfect the area with? I’ve had chickens a long time now and never seen a feather cyst so I really appreciate the help

A dab of chlorhexidene, betadine or alcohol (don’t get it into eyes,) or Vetericyn would be good. Chlorhexidene is sold as Hibiclens in small bottles at Walmart for about $5.

A dab of chlorhexidene, betadine or alcohol (don’t get it into eyes,) or Vetericyn would be good. Chlorhexidene is sold as Hibiclens in small bottles at Walmart for about $5.

I’ve got some vetericyn spray on hand for when the dog or the hens injure themselves so that’s good I’ll refrain from trying to burst it myself as I don’t want to cause any infection but I’ll apply some of the vetericyn later with a cotton pad topically, I’m in the U.K. so a lot of the medicines you can get to treat hens are not always available here
