I raised 10 chickens from babies and got 12 more a few months ago. One chicken died two weeks ago i think from stress from the roosters...they were all tossed out except for two silkies, ayam cementi and one small one. Two hens think they are roosters and have mounted hens and they scream like roosters. I have this one rhode island red who hides behind things and acts like she is dead. She goes on the chicken house roof and runs to me when I climb up a ladder to her. She wants to leave when I leave. Well after the first one died (She died in the house after sleeping with me on my bed) I didnt want this one to die as well. I let her sleep with me and I put her in the bathroom when I sleep and go to work. This for so many reasons is not working. I also have a 20 yr old cat that uses the bathroom as 'her' place. Yesterday I put the chicken in the dog kennel..its 8x12x6high. She seemed okay in there. I dont know what to do in the future. She isnt huge so I dont trust the cats around her. I have 7 cats that go outside and are terrified of the roosters. I cant give her away cuz they might hurt her or kill her. Should I give her the dog kennel? I was thinking of putting up some perches for her and a spare tire filled with sand for her dust baths. She is a very needy chicken and I already cater to a blind cat, blind dog, autistic dog (yes she was diagnosed by one vet after another said she was dying and was going to put her down. She stares at the wall alot). I suppose I can handle another special needs animal if there is no other option. Again.....I wont hurt her so if that is the response..save it.
