I have a chicken who has not been as active as she has usually has been, she's just laying at the back door of my house for hours now. She still drinks and eats, and she stands up when we walk out the door or if I startle her. But other than that she just stays there, laying down though she does ruffle her feathers from time to time. Another thing is that her feathers feel so rough. She also has feathers on her vent area but there long and they stick together almost and you can see her vent area as if she hardly has any feathers there. We don't know what age she is because she was rescued, but I don't know what to do, Is she ok? We did give her some VetRX

Hello and welcome to BYC! :frow Glad you joined.

Can you post pictures of her? And a close up of her vent? What are you feeding her?

You need to check her crop function to make sure it is full at night and empty in the morning. Smell her breath when you check her crop at night. Also feel between her legs for fluid build up or abnormal fullness/hardness. Compare her to your other birds.

Hiya, and welcome to BYC! :frow

@DobieLover has some good questions we'd need to know.

I've got one similar. I eventually figured out what was wrong, and she's on an antibiotic now, getting better. It helps to see pictures and know a bit more. We've also got an Emergency Forum you can post in as well.

We're glad you're here!

Welcome! Does she feel swollen around the vent area? Is she wet around the vent? Pictures will help. I can help you the best I can.

So we are feeding her some pellet feed with some vitamins.
And she got up earlier just to eat a little bit of grass, I would send a couple of photos but the button for the app to insert the photos is currently not working for me.

The vent area feels kind of hard and she is not wet but it's hard to tell cause her feathers are so thick and rough. I would send a photo but the button to insert the photos are not working for me currently
