Chicken Hit By A Car

Glad to hear no sign of blood! And so great to hear that she seems to be able to get some sleep - that is such a gift.
I didn't see mention of what you are giving for pain. Too many things are unfortunately toxic for chickens.....
Sending lots of good wishes her/your way

The only thing that I ever see recommended is pure aspirin (if they are not bleeding inside or out). Rescue Remedy is much more mild - can certainly be given. I don't think she'll get meaningful relief from the tea - though it's probably harmless. If she was hit by a car, she's probably been in a world of hurt since it happened. Is the tea what you meant when you said you gave her a bit of something for pain?

An egg - poor thing - it had to get out as it was already in play. I'm glad she was able to move it along as there are others behind it. Spekaing of which, to slow down egg production while she is compromised, you might avail her of less light. That is, keep her in a dimly lit place except for a short period each day - for now.

Is she eating yet - it's been a few days now, right? (it can take awhile - if she's not, I would definitely try the formulas mentioned above). Is she getting up at all?

I don't know if this helps, but I recently had a turkey with a spinal cord injury. When it first happened he could still walk around, but was a bit wobbly. The next day, he could not walk at all, although he still had movement in his legs. I took him to the Veterinary Hospitol at the University of Florida. The veterinarian said Xrays did not show a broken neck and his inability to walk most likely was pressure on his spinal cord from swelling. It would take two to three weeks for the swelling to go down and then he most likely would never be able to walk because of the swelling causing damage to the nerves in his neck/spinal cord. Turkeys are not as tough as chickens, but since I was able to take him to the vet, I thought you might want to know what I was told about spinal cord injury. I do hope your chickie gets better. I really love my birds, too.

If she WAS actually hit by a car, then she is a tough girl to have survived at all. Either it was a lucky graze or she has a tremendous will to live! No doubt, that strength will be in her favor throughout her recuperation.

I really hope she is able to pull through and get her mobility back. At least the egg-laying might mean that she still has enough feeling in her pelvis to feel the urge to push. Here's hoping and praying for her to get well soon!

Thankyou for all of your posts and help, unfortunately, she went to sleep Sunday evening after living for 10 days. She seemed to be doing well and didn't seem in pain and I was hopeful, but I realized the evening before that she did seem paralized on one side and I noticed that she had a rattle in her breathing, which made me think she wouldn't last the night, even though she did seem alert and comfortable. I came down in the morning and she was sitting with her eyes closed and I knew she was gone. I guess it was for the best as I don't think she was going to recover and it spared me having to decide to have her put to sleep.
