Chicken hurt by raccoon-safe to eat?

I'm sorry but isn't that why we cook meat? Raw meat can make you sick. But we still will eat medium rare beef. Ever ordered medium rare chicken? No, you cook to a high enough internal temp to kill bacteria and make it safe to eat. What am I missing here? Do raccoons carry disease that can't be killed by cooking?

You exposed yourself to blood and fluids when you butcher the bird that can carry a disease. To each their own but I wouldn't chance it.
