Yesterday, I was free ranging my birds and my dog attacked my Speckled Sussex Claire. Usually the dogs herd the goats and never cares about the chickens. At the time I was cleaning the coop and I heard Claire clucking. there was no blood only feathers and you can't even tell she was attacked. Claire is in shock and she's not eating or drinking, only standing in the corner sleeping. My frizzle hen was in shock once but she was ok in a couple of hours. should I be concerned about Claire or will she start eating and drinking soon?

I'm not an expert, but after I did some research on shock and stress I found out that a fraction of a teaspoon of sugar and a tiny amount of salt mixed in a cup of warm water is a good way to get their body functioning again.

We free range all our chickens and as a consequence of that we deal with predator incidents several times a year. I've noticed that even if a hen wasn't physically attacked, the stress of the predator just being there will put them off their feed for a day or two. Getting actually attacked has to be really traumatic, even if there's no injury from it. I wouldn't worry too much just yet; give her special treats and warm water and a safe, quiet place to be and I bet she'll be fine in a day or two!

If she seems to still be in shock, isolate her from the other birds temporarily. Give her some sugar water and/or some electrolytes in the water. Try to coax her into eating by offering moistened chicken feed or a treat like mealworms. If she isn't badly injured, she should recover in time.

Scratch that, there are several puncture wounds and a big hole(we brought her to a vet and we left her there and they just found it.)
