from the Finger Lakes of New York! Best of luck with your new "friend". My guess is she is used to roosting in a coop at night which would explain her wanting to come inside. Thanks for joining us and sharing the story!

Your post made me laugh! I think your wife and I have quite a bit in common - but learning about the chickens is becoming very fun!

Thanks for the warm welcome everyone. The dog carrier seems to be good at night so far. I am at home days with my son and we keep a close eye in the yard. My son will make sure nothing happens to his chicken "Gertie."

No one has Identified the breed yet. She seems to be young also. I haven't seen any eggs or anything in the last week she has been here.

I have been having a lot of fun learning on this great site.

Welcome from Tustin.

I grew up with chickens in Riverside; the only predators we had were opossums stealing eggs. Regardless, I would make a covered run to protect from hawks.

Enjoy - hope you get as addicted as I am to raising chickens!

Hi Kim, Nice to meet you. Think its ok to free range as long as i'm home? Are you saying to keep them covered all of the time.
