Yancy wanted my jacket buttons in the worst way... she was stalking me from every direction
Olive is napping... she had a pretty severe head injury last winter's end - lost her entire crest in one clump, courtesy of 3 obnoxious roosters. she's finally filled in nearly 8 months later! the feathers are still small, but they are sticking up, so I'm relieved to see she will be whole very soon!
OEG Bantam Brutus hopped up for some lovin' and some vetericyn on his mildly frostbitten wattle.
Merry, my favorite pic of the day

Wow! He's so handsome! I think Sir Banty and Brutus may be cousins. lol Brutus is a black breasted brown, right? Or, is he a black breasted red? Do you have a closeup of his face? Handsome fellow!
this is the first one I came across that I had already posted on BYC... I was told he's a black breasted red. he's super friendly with people, large fowl hens and bantam hens and has 1 bantam roo buddy, a Dutch Heritage (who is dominant over Brutus)... otherwise, he's a fighter and can't live with my group of 7 other bantam roosters. so he and Dutch live with the hens. very happily, I might add...!
I love your Sir Banty - he's very photogenic, and you've got the knack with the camera!
ChickenPeep, thanks...me too! she cracks me up all the time. she honks rather than clucks and is very much "in my face" for attention and such...I named her America as a chick, because she looked (still does) like an American Bald Eaglet. shortened to Merry which suits her beautifully, she's a happy hen.
He has a very similar look to Sir Banty I think. Nicely defined face, and delightful expression. He would be just an excellent photography subject! And yes, he's a black-breasted red. Has the white legs. Sir Banty is blonder in hackle and some in saddle, but he has slate colored legs- Black breasted brown.
We believe Sir Banty has at least a small amount of strange chicken charisma or something. lol So although he's not SOP (too colorful chest) there's still "something" going on there. Sounds odd, right? lol. What I mean is, Sir Banty is more photogenic than all the rest of our 80 birds, due to his ability to "connect" with the camera. Well… we like to think so anyway. lol
Thank you for the compliment about my "knack." I used to work for an SF photography studio for a time. So, switching to active, fast moving chickens with short attention spans, using just available light requires a learning curve! lol I never leave the house anymore without a camera, cause chickens are always doing something interesting, and they blink in the first few shots and the action is finished before you've focused.
One good trick I use with the chickens so they look into the camera lens, is to focus camera first, then gently tap the camera with a free index fingernail, or, make a small noise that won't startle them, like a soft cluck so they look at you (like oh no, here she is again! lol). You have a small window for the shot usually while they freeze, but you can make that eye contact that can be difficult to achieve otherwise.
