Chicken "in your face" pictures!!

Pootle - my 'old one out'. She is a mix breed bantam (all my other chickens are Japanese Bantams) She is a special need chicken and is virtually blind and I just could not bare to part with her in case someone could not make sure she got enough food and water! She is so friendly and lives a very happy life - my other chickens are all kind to her and she has learnt where the food and water bowls are.

Pootle is darling, and a lucky gal to have such a wonderful home! This afternoon I visited one of the homes that I placed 6 chicks with. The gang is thriving! I got a bunch of pictures, of course. The "parents" are coming up tonight to see the pics and we'll post some on here - I have been trying to get them on byc since I stumbled on it,

She looks like such a sweet heart! I think she has such a cute chicky face. I wonder how she found her food and drink so well?

Chickens are so much more amazing then the general public knows!

Too bad everyone doesn't have a chicken lol

When I first bought her as a pullet with several others, I noticed she was not growing and felt skinny. I noticed too that she was not acting normal and I thought she was brain damaged a bit. She kept pecking at the air and would not see treats or food on the ground. She would also dunk her whole head under the water to drink, or miss the water completely. She has a helpful rooster 'guide chicken' who she follows around with her head in his tail feathers! If they get separated she will make some noise and he comes running back to her - so sweet.

I switched to using a big red deep food pot and water dish. She knows where these are, but if I move then or change them she can not find the food, so I have to make sure they are always in the same place. Her most unusual behaviour is to be out and about after dark walking about as if its daytime when all the other chickens are roosting. I have to make sure I put her away or she would like to stay out all night!

oh my gosh that is so crazy....and sweet...she keeps her head in his butt!!!, dang, so as long as her "routine" is the same she's alright...thats crazy...kinda like a horse I used to have, I had a white arabian & his friend a big pretty white/appaloosa quarter horse was going blind & he would always follow my arabian everywhere and as long as they were together he was all calm & everything
