Chicken isn’t digesting things

Hi,
My 9 year old hen is having some issues. On Saturday I noticed her poops were very odd. They have been getting much worse. Her crop is now not digesting anything and is full of water and feed. She is still acting lively and moving but is also sleeping more than usual.

I am currently giving cephalexin to her because a vet thought she may have had a bone infection previously and in that same spot, the bone is growing odd so I just decided that maybe this poop issue could be caused by infection so she is on day 2. I am giving coconut oil and will proceed to a molasses flush in the next 30 minutes.

Her crop is not moving anymore and she is pooping bile. Her crop didn’t digest overnight. I will attach pictures of her poops from Saturday to today. I’m very worried. @Eggcessive @coach723 @speckledhen @Wyorp Rock @azygous @TwoCrows

The last one is the most recent. She doesn’t even have poop coming out, just liquid. I can’t get a vet appt until Tuesday.

She is still eating and drinking but I don’t want her to because nothing is going through. She is moving but she is also sleeping much more often. It’s hard to tell since she has arthritis so doesn’t walk much already. But she is sleeping a lot more.

Try the molasses flush. One teaspoon molasses to one-fourth cup warm water.

Sorry about your hen. At nine it's hard to say if this is just age catching up to her, or if it's something you can treat. I think you are pretty much doing what you can. I lost a 10 year old hen that was past laying for several years, turned out to be an infection (abscessed ovary) that did not respond to antibiotics and became septic. Cause was found at necropsy. Even when they are past laying, reproductive infections and cancers can still happen. The flush may help, and may help to determine if she's got a blockage somewhere that might move. Make sure she takes in plenty of fluids, flushing can cause dehydration.

I gave the molasses flush.

She had an X-ray done about a month ago, she did not have any growths or bumps... anything in her that suggested cancer. But of course I understand how these things go.

When should I give her the antibiotics, coconut oil, and other little things?

I finished giving her the molssses flush at 1:30 pm.

Give her an hour. Then give her something she adores to eat. That will push out a poop from the molasses flush for us to view in all its splendor.

Then you can give the med, oil and more to eat.

And of course, just as I was adjusting her, she threw up. I guess too much pressure was on her crop. The throw up was very gooey.

Updated poop picture: right on the foam... there’s always a towel between her and the cushion but she pooped on all of the towels so I was just hoping she would not go right on the foam... of course she did
