Lol, haven't heard it called that. Thats cute.

Silkies seems to be your best sitter. They continually go Broody. I believe they can handle a lot of eggs under them. We had Americana's as chicks, by the time they were about 7 weeks, you could sex them by the male feathers, like their saddles, pin feathers. They were all roos, got them at a farm swap. Won't do that again. Guy probably knew how to sex them as chicks.

Yeah I think you can tell by the comb? How many rows or something. Not sure though because I don't know a lot about them.

Ee are not a standard breed...three rows being male...I'd say yes but not foolproof.
I have 4 ee pullets and they all have different looking combs...I was fearful that 3 were roos...I have one that's huge...she was a latebloomer...she also is minus beard and fluffy miffs...but she's laying green eggs...I'm gonna get some blue egg layers this time

I wish I could free range..but its a poop issue and coyote problem...we also have lots of hawks and bald eagles..
I bought some wolf urine as a coyote deterant but had second thoughts...cause I don't want to draw in any worst beasties than we already have...yes we have wolves and those suckers are HUGE NASTY CREATURES THAT HUNT IN PACKS. No thanks to the government for reintroducing them with nothing to keep their numbers in check...they should live in Yellowstone or zoos...not residential areas.
LOL just listen to me ranting ...anyway that's my reason why...my girls gotta be safe..

I'm so excited about your new chicks...I have to wait til aprilish to get more...but hopefully you'll have time to share pics...I like to see how they grow.
ill bet the gold laced cochins will be beautiful
birds...and wonder what colors of ee you'll get...BC is the prettiest ee IV seen...I'm glad she's found her place.

We have lots of trees so the flock is pretty safe.I am thankfull for that! We have the coyotes but they usually run at night. And I love wolves lol.
BUT a friend of mine has bator and was itchin to get it going but did not have a full rack. So I gave her some of my eggs to test and see if any are fertile. She has one of BC so we will see!! Should know by the end of the month if Rooster man is doing his job yet. I got 13 eggs today!! So only four more hens to go.The little bantam Cochin lay the smallest egg!! So cute lol. I have a ship date on the others from Cackle on the 10th of feb. It will be neat to see the EE grow and to see what they will look like. The gold laced will be very pretty! I got a straight run of 5 so I am sure I will have a rooster to keep. I have never seen rooster man get BC but I think he and she will make cute babies! Put some red into the color. we will see.

13 eggs....yea!!!
A few of mine have slowed down..but all seem to be laying some.
I have 3 gold laced wyandottes...big fluffy birds..

I never realized that wolves were such an enormous animal...I was on my way home from work a few weeks ago one morning and one darted out in front of my car...I looked to my left to see a pack of them ripping someones dog to shreds..
I didn't get stopped in time to save the dog...they ran off with it in pieces...I respect them as an apex predator but I don't want them around where my kids play

Haven't had snow yet, 2-3 eggs a day from 4 hens, and the best part is, I live in Scotland!

We have had a very COLD winter! Lots of ice. But the girls are laying great. Yesterday I got 17 eggs! I have a light timer in the coop to keep em going.
Big Chicken might be a mom!!! A friend with a bator let me give her some eggs to test for fertility. I had one of BC's eggs so I sent it along. Out of 18, 16 are developing and one is BC's. I cant wait to see if it hatches out! Hatch date is the 9th. And ship date of the other 30 chicks is supposed to be the 10th. Gonna have a lot of chicks lol. I will try to get some more pics if the weather gets decent.
