Chicken laid somthing that looked like a cooked yoke! What are we doin

If the color in the photos is accurate, I would agree that they are not young hens based on the color of their legs. We recently had the county Ag out to do the testing for the county fair, and he told me that our older hens are probably just about done being productive because their legs are 'bleached'. We are down to about 4-6 eggs a week, from 12-15 a couple of months ago. The eggs still taste fine though.

It can be disappointing to find out that things are different than you thought they were, but it will be alright. Just watch this lady for a red swelling abdomen. They will continue to give you big brown eggs. They may have a molt coming up, expect fewer eggs.
Nice surprise from your husband. Many others on this forum have to beg and plead with their spouses for chickens, and yours just brought some home to you! Wow!

Well, that hen is probably over two years old, maybe older than three. The cooked yolk thing could be the last thing you see like that or it could be a sign of bad things to come. It is egg material mixed with solid infection, usually. Look up internal laying and egg peritonitis. That type of production hen is prone to that, unfortunately. I've had way too much experience with it in my hatchery hens, which is why I no longer buy hatchery production breeds. I'm sure you'll spoil her rotten, though. These hens go through so much to produce those eggs!

I am not sure which chicken layed this. We think it was chicken run who came pretty much plucked

Henny may have layed the shelless egg. These two eggs or whatever yesterday was are all we have gotten in 6 weeks

I guess we will have to wait for the babies to get big to get eggs

Yes, my husband is amazing. I think he thought it would save money, which it totally does not, but he loves our backyard chickens. He said we can have 10 chickens total so we were planning on getting rid of 2 of the other hens and keeping Henny, Then we will keep 3 Silkies, 3 Plymouth Rocks, and two eastereggers. Then we can get one more. I am thinking a dark brown layer
