Question for you: one of my chickens laid this strange wad of tissue along with a shell-less egg. Pretty sure it's my Jersey Giant. She is 2 years old and they all have free access to oyster shells, as well as crushed egg shells.

She hasn't laid an egg in about a week, but I attributed it to perhaps being ready to molt, as my other chickens are molting as well. Normally she lays 5-7 eggs a week, although egg production has been low recently due to summer heat.

Is this weird tissue thing something to worry about?

If you still have it, cut it open and see what's inside. If there's more layers of the same material inside it's a lash egg.

It can possibly be treated with antibiotics but as the cause of infection can vary, antibiotics will only work on a bacterial infection.
