Please help! We have a 4 year old silkie chicken. She’s been happy and healthy up until today when she lost control of her legs. She can’t stand and keeps falling over. She’s eating and drinking fine, and we gave her a greek yogurt/egg mixture in case she has a vitamin B deficiency. She was vaccinated for Mareks when she was born, and she’s out of the average age range for it so we’ve pretty much ruled that out. Any ideas for what’s going on or how to treat?

Give her a calcium tablet and see what happens. Recently, two of my Australorp pullets began laying, and coincidentally had balance and paralysis issues. They seemed to recover quickly after the calcium tablet.

These pullets are two of three that came down with paralysis suddenly like your hen. I've spent the past three months treating one with a "kitchen sink: approach, and she's now recovering. This is the thread where I've been documenting this.

But give her the calcium. I'm curious if low calcium plays a role in this mysterious disability.

We just got some calcium tablets to give her so we will see how that works. Thank you for the response!
