So I have a 1 year old Buff Orpington Hen that has been limping. It all started during her first time being broody. She was broody for longer then three weeks, I tried the usual tricks to break it up. Nothing really helped. Then I started to notice a limp, small at first, then it began to get larger. Eventually she stopped putting any weight onto her left leg. Now the leg king of dangles forward as if dislocated. Her foot on that side is bunched up.

I checked for bumblefoot, and she doesn't seem to have it.

She is not egg bound.

There are no mites or fleas on her.

Her tail is still pointed up, and doesn't seem to be in much discomfort.

Her Pupils are normal.

I now have her in isolation in a smaller cage, to see if it will heal. It has been two weeks and there doesn't seem to be any progress. Now her left leg is starting to lose muscle.

Here is a couple of pics I took of her after her warm bath.

The only symptom of Mereks disease that she is showing so this leg thing. All the other chickens in the flock seem to be fine.

Anyone else experience this with their chickens? If so, what did you do?

Mareks disease or riboflavin deficiency can both cause those leg symptoms of lameness, sitting on hocks, and curling toes. Start either poultry vitamins or riboflavin (vitamin B2) right away, and make sure that she is eating. The sooner vitamins are started the better the chances of recovery. Here is some info about riboflavin deficiency and Mareks disease:

Thank you for the advice. I have increased her greens, and have started to supplement her with the B 2 Vitamin. She laid her first egg in 2 months the other day. It was a small egg, but it's nice she is starting to show improvement.

I think her super long broody session might have had to do with her Vitamin B 2 deficiency.

I'm still keeping her in a small enclosure, but she seems to be putting more weight on her leg. I will update you with pictures if she starts making a recovery.
