chicken lice, best natural product ?

Hi @growlingrooster :frow

Since you are in Canada you may want to check out @Wickedchicken6 post about products that may be available to you here: https://www.backyardchickens.com/threads/help-we-have-mites.1192577/#post-18855450
I never had this problem before neither, my birds walk around free on the ranch and they have tons of dust baths around. I imagine with the rain we've been getting the new birds didn't catch a chance for it... I'll try fill a litter box with ashes and dirt, I suspect it'll help and give me more time to find meds just in case!
Hi @growlingrooster! :frow I'm sorry to hear you're having issues.

You don't need to divulge exactly where you are in Canada...but an idea of whether you're east of Manitoba or west of Manitoba would help with giving you more accurate information for your area and perhaps a broader range of choices. :)

it's okay haha, without giving my address I can tell you I'm in Quebec ;)!
I'm gonna be giving the hens a good dust bath per week or more but I'm really curious about what other products I could get in store or maybe order online! something that would preferably be safe for me and other animals that share the environment!

I was curious too if the lice can be transmitted to humans ??? is it the same kind of lice children tend to get?

Lice and mites are host specific, so they can get on you and irritate you but they can't live on you.

Lol...that helps. Thank you. Unfortunately I'm not as familiar with Quebec.
As far as I'm aware, the Carbaryl product mentioned earlier

http://www.domvet.com/dusting.html

is labeled for chickens and I believe across Canada.
Here it ranges in prices from$18-$24

https://www.drugs.com/vet/dusting-powder-can.html

It's what I use and it's worked extremely well. I dusted the entire flock this spring and haven't seen mites since. (Northern Fowl Mites)

Permethrin is legal for producers to use in some provinces and in some it's not.
It's legal in Manitoba and I believe in Saskatchewan (I have to check that) I just purchased a bottle of it in manitoba.
It is not legal for a regular producer to buy or use permethrin in Ontario. You have to be a licenced to use class 4 pesticides.

I'm not certain if permethrin is legal for producers to use it in Quebec. You may have to ask about these products at your local feed stores/vet. I can't find any information other than the permethrin products for human lice. Even the link below lists states a pesticide licence is required for purchase of the product.

Both of the above products, if legal...can be found in most independant feed stores and co-ops. In Manitoba, Rona is listed as carrying the Ectiban permethrin. It's something you may be able to check into if you have a Rona close by. Your vet may have these products. There may be other brands of permethrin. Ectiban is the only one I've seen that has chickens on it's label.

I've seen a Tetrachlorvinphos product for chickens at Peavey Mart. It may be available at a TSC in Ontario if you are close at all. I'm not as familiar with this product. I've never used it. I wish I had more specific information for Quebec.
