I love it! Great idea and Great job! I've been looking for ideas for my coop. This looks simple enough. Maybe I could do something like that too!! Thanks, great job!

Yep, I plan to copy it for the new place and make the new slats with 2 x 4s for the larger birds and just use this one for the bantams. Though, I would be interested in any feedback on the reasoning behind using 2 X 4s rather than 1 x 2s. So far it seems to have something to do with helping them avoid frostbite on their toes in winter. If that's the only reason I may stick with the 1 x 2s because it allows more space between slats for the poo to fall through. They seem happy on there, but if there is a legitimate health reason why they shouldn't be, then I'd like to know so I can change the design. If it's just a temp thing then I don't think I need to worry since I live in Texas.
The tubs came from Lowes (big hardware store). I found them in the section with the concrete and assorted supplies. They came in two sizes and were for mixing concrete so they are heavy duty. I based the measurements for the frame on the size of the tray so that the 'lip' would rest on the boards and allow it to slide out.
Terrific idea worth copying. I have a question. Since most chickens seem to want to go to the higher roost, if you had space would you lengthen the roost and not have two levels?
Just curious. Thanks!

I have been considering that for the new coop...the only issue with lengthening it is finding a tub that is longer than 3 ft. I figured I could use 2 tubs end to end, I guess. Though I still want the lower roosts for the ones that are lower on the pecking order and/or unable to fly to the top. I have silkies and some little, fat cochins that like to roost down there.
