Do you have time to answer a few questions?
How often do you have to clean the pooh out?
I like your wooden trough idea, would it be ook to just set it on the dirt floor?
Do you know how high roosts can be? The top of my nest boxes are about 5' so I wanted to put them higher than that?
Did you ever get an answer to the ideal size for roosts? I was considering 2"x2"s.
Thank you!
first, Awesome idea, will be using
second, do you dump the used stall dry in compost bin? does the clay clump up garden? Do you think just thick sweet PDZ would work?
also, what do you think of a nest box under it instead of two levels?
I no longer use this roost because we have moved and now have a much larger coop...
I recently build a much larger version of this roost system (will try to put some pics up soon) which is basically a 12 ft long, 2.5 ft wide shelf along the back wall of my coop. The shelf is surrounded on 4 sides with 1" X 4" boards, making a 4 inch deep tray that I fill with a couple of inches of stall dri. Over the tray, I put 3 rows of 2" by 4" boards that are on hinges so they can lift out of the way when I need to scoop the poo.
I scoop whenever it builds up to where it is kinda gross...how long that takes can vary.'
Any chance we could see a photo of the new coop, box and roost? You really came up with a winner idea. I will be going by Tractor Supply before the weekend.
