Chicken loosing feathers. Help

I have three chickens a year old, three different breeds. They are my pets. I'm enjoying my girls so much. I'm learning as I go and am glad to have recently found this website.

I have one Rhode Island Red who has lost her feathers on her chest. She has a strip about 1 1/2" wide my 4" long. Most of the exposed skin is very red. What is wrong with her and what do I do about it? She lays a big brown egg everyday, so whatever it is, it doesn't affect her laying.

I was thinking they were going into a molt at first, but when you mention the red skin...

Interesting, I have 3 Rhodies too, and I'm seeing the same problem develop on one mostly, now a second. The first one with the feather loss, skin issue, now seems to have "chewed up" tail feathers??
