I have 1 chicken and 1 guinea hen left in my flock. I went away for the weekend and when I got back she lost a good portion of her feathers. She has never molted like this before. What else could cause it
That is not the pattern of molt. It's the pattern of broodiness. The feathers dissapear along the keel bone in prep for incubating eggs so there is direct skin contact with them to keep them warm and moist.
My guess is you are probably down south of the equator where you are starting spring.
