I have this 6-7 week old black asian chicken That I call Shadow. We had the brooder in the extra bedroom since we didnt have anywhere safe for them to stay outside, which made it super easy to check on them and play with them. All my birds are used to being handled and the two asians are especially friendly. They liked to perch on my shoulder or snuggle up in my lap. The birds are now outside in the coop. Shadow makes this noise every time I leave the coop and tries to go with me. What does this noise mean? I feel like its crying at me to stay as it also follows me and if possible will try to fly up to me. Did I become mama? Last night when I went to tuck them in to bed, Shadow climbed up my arm and perched on my shoulder and went to sleep! I came back in the house and watched some TV for a lil bit before finally getting Shadow off to bed with the rest of the birds, but it made this cry noise for about a minute before settling in. It sounds so sad. Does it just want to be back in the house with the AC? (It was 93F yesterday). Am I misinterpreting this sound for my spoiled bird?

You have a special new friend. So sweet.

How long have chicks been out with flock?
Chicks have imprinted on you due to handling and housing....they see you as 'safe'.
