We just purchased a house in Louisiana with some acreage and I have always wanted chickens. Before I actually purchase the chicks, I want do as much research as I can. Many of the reference sites mentioned this forum, so here I am.

Hubby and I are retired, all kids grown, no chickens yet. I will probably look to start my flock in the spring

Birds are different from other pets or livestock. They really do require a commitment of time, knowledge, patience, and resources. :jumpy

Thank you, I love the silkies, but will probably go with the EEs so I can get different colored eggs. I have hear of the perils of chicken math
