Chicken Math Got Me Bad....

Hey, sounds like you’re yet another awesome person who is as addicted to buying chicks as I am!

I have never had chicks shipped, as I would be heartbroken if something happened to them.


I live an hour and a half drive from Rural King, and even that, causes heat-related issues.
Finally got this set up, and it works great!

I have an inverter that plugs into the cigarette lighter, and then I just run the cord back.
For travel, I offer very wet mash for feed and water. (Don’t give them an actual waterer unless you’re stopped. It makes a miserable reck for them.)
They spend most of the drive hanging out under the heat plate, but hey, at least they’ve got it!

Haven’t lost one to chilling since!

That’s actually a good idea. I’d have to double check but I think my truck actually has a built in inverter with a plug in the armrest.

Maybe there will be a road trip in my future.

Yea, I used the gallery function here on the site.

It would have been nice to be able to use TikTok or Facebook some how. I was just trying to avoid having yet another place to upload videos to.

I am not sure where you are located. I did order on Halloween and lost 5, last Dec I ordered and lost the batch because it was delayed because of a snow storm. I ordered again a replacement, and only lost one.

I caught everyone and stuffed them into their shipping box (boy that was an adventure lemme tell you) so I could make some adjustments to the brooder this afternoon.

Added a bit of fresh wood pellets to under the brooder plate and stirred things around. Raised the plate up a little. Pulled off the cardboard blocking at the far end of the brooder because no one is small enough to fit thru the bars down there, not even Q-Tip (Polish and smallest). Added a nipple type waterer so they can start figuring that out because that's all the adults have available in the run.
Then checked leg bands and removed/replaced a few and took everyone's photo.
