Being realistic you're already past capacity, and integration takes extra room beyond the 4 sq ft per.

I think you have room for more birds in your coop but your pen is way too small. I realize that they are probably only in the coop to mainly roost and use the nest boxes. I figure 5 girls can use one nest box so with 8 nest boxes you can service 40 females but that would probably over crowd the coop. Do you have the room to expand and add more pen space for times you can't let them free range. I only let my birds free range when I'm out working and can look out and see them. I had a fox come during the day and kill some birds years ago. If I need to go to town on a errand run, I don't let the birds out. My birds have large pens but I have several acres so there is plenty of room.

Square footage is calculated as Length x Width so if your run is 12' x 12' that is 144 square feet. @336White Phoenix

8x6 coop with 16 birds is already overcrowded IMO.

How big is a square feet??

12" wide in one direction and the same (12" wide) in another direction.
So it is a square and it measures a foot both ways. Like many floor tiles.

If you want more chickens then build a bigger enclosure, South Texas no snow you should be able to build a mostly open air coop more wire than wood. Go big size matters.

I think you could add a few more no problem with a larger run. I have a 4'x8' coup with 8 nesting boxes with a 16'x16' run. 19 hens and 4 roosters have had zero problems. They only use the coup for sleeping and nesting boxes. As long as your run is large enough you should be good.
